  • What ?

Northwest D.C. is growing up and out in a beautiful and in many ways, a bittersweet fashion. As such, In Our ‘Hood is communal exhibition project that seeks to allow local art spaces and community groups the opportunity to collaborate on a single exhibition recounting, chronicling, bringing to life the past, present, and future of these historic neighborhoods through a variety of media.

A month long exhibition, housed at several different neighborhood spaces at the same time. Showcasing work focused on the growth and change of the Ledroit Park, Shaw and U Street Corridor neighborhoods from up to 100 local artists. With the exhibition spread out amongst spaces in all three targeted areas, a walking tour of the neighborhood will be used to promote the project. Allowing the audience to not only see the art; the history and change that it is recounting but to witness the gentrification in the present by walking through said neighborhoods and being guided to each destination.

In Our ‘Hood will be enhanced by weekly events including artist talks, community meetings and panel discussions about gentrification, youth art workshops surrounding the art showcased. Each space involved would be charged with hosting at least one event within the duration of the exhibit.
